When the old stadium was demolished, several features deemed to be of historical interest were preserved and removed for restoration and renovation with a view to including them in the new construction.
We were approached and asked if we could salvage the remnants of a mosaic design located in what was called the Palace of arts, located next to the old Stadium.
Salvaged from within the building were a section of mosaic border containing three decorative circular motifs, and two panels of glass wall tiles, produced by the much loved Whitefriars factory.
The floor mosaic was carefully removed by drilling a series of holes beneath its surface. The mosaic, prone to vibration and fracture was held in place by creating a surface skin with supports. The sections were then extracted in segments and taken to our workshops for restoration.
All the mosaic panels were mounted and framed for display purposes using custom made stainless steel frames.
The restored panels will be on show soon at the new arena along with other salvaged period features.
London Mosaic Restoration are happy to quote for any projects of this nature and can be contacted through the contact page of this website.
